Research Interests:

Abstract Oral diseases remain among the most prevalent non-communicable diseases worldwide, disproportionately affecting underserved populations with limited access to preventive and curative dental care. Public health dentistry has traditionally relied on community outreach, epidemiological surveillance, and preventive interventions to improve oral health outcomes. However, increasing population demands, workforce shortages, and persistent disparities in healthcare access necessitate innovative strategies to enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and effectiveness of oral healthcare delivery. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to reshape public health dentistry through data driven decision making, early disease detection, and personalised preventive care. This presentation explores the expanding role of AI in advancing community oral health beyond conventional clinical practice. It highlights key applications, including AI assisted screening for dental caries and oral potentially malignant disorders, predictive modelling to identify high risk populations, intelligent epidemiological surveillance, teledentistry, and optimisation of resources for large scale community oral health programmes. The presentation further examines how AI can support evidence based policy development, strengthen preventive oral health initiatives, and expand access to quality oral healthcare, particularly in resource constrained settings. Despite its considerable potential, the successful implementation of AI requires careful consideration of data quality, algorithmic bias, patient privacy, ethical governance, regulatory frameworks, and digital health infrastructure. Meaningful integration will depend on interdisciplinary collaboration among dental professionals, public health practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and technology developers to ensure that AI driven solutions remain equitable, transparent, and patient centred. By synthesising current evidence, emerging innovations, implementation challenges, and future opportunities, this presentation demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence can transform public health dentistry beyond the dental chair, supporting the development of smarter, more accessible, equitable, and sustainable community oral healthcare systems worldwide.
